NBA scores: Heat, Magic lose to 2 of NBA's worst teams
Both of Florida's NBA franchises suffered embarrassing losses on Friday night.
With Dwyane Wade out due to a suspension, the Miami Heat were stunned on Friday night in the Motor City, losing 109-99 to the Detroit Pistons.
LeBron James led all scorers with 35 points, and Chris Bosh had a terrific game finishing with 28 points and nine rebounds. However, the rest of the Heat players combined to score just 36 points on 13-of-38 shooting. Miami lost the game in the second quarter, more or less, as Detroit outscored the defending champions, 41-20, in the period. With the win, the Pistons improved to 10-23 on the season, while the Heat fell to 20-7.
In the nation's capital, the Orlando Magic fell to the woeful Washington Wizards, 105-97. Wizards' reserve guard Jordan Crawford scored 27 points off the bench, while Nene added 23 points and 11 rebounds. Washington outscored Orlando by 14 points in the middle two quarters and held on in the fourth for a rare victory.
The Wizards are now 4-23 while the Magic, who continue to be mired in a downward spiral, dropped to 12-17.

LONDON (AP) ? Few people keep Queen Elizabeth II waiting, especially when she has issued a personal invitation, but President Ronald Reagan managed to do so in 1982 without causing any lasting damage.
It happened in 1982, when the Reagan White House failed to reply in a timely way to a personal invitation from the queen for the president and his wife Nancy to stay with her at Windsor Castle during a planned visit to England.
Formerly Confidential papers made public Friday reveal there were raised eyebrows, and bruised feelings, when Reagan did not answer the sort of invite that usually commands a prompt reply the world over. The queen's invitation was left to languish for weeks ? something the British believe is simply Not Done.
"It is really for the president to respond to her invitation, which he has not done personally, something that I have pointed out several times here," writes Nicholas Henderson, Britain's ambassador to Washington, in a memo to the British Foreign Office. "As you know those surrounding the president are not deliberately rude: It is simply that they are not well-organized and do not have experience of this sort of thing."
The misunderstanding was eventually cleared up ? and Reagan even found the time to go horseback riding with the queen.
A former Reagan official today offers one possible explanation for the delay replying: Nancy Reagan's need to consult an astrologer.
"You have to remember that Mrs. Reagan was very strict about his schedule, and she would consult her astrologer to see if this was the right time to travel," William F. Sittman, a special assistant to Reagan who was involved in planning the trip, told The Associated Press. "Sometimes she would back up departures."
The tiff over the tardy reply is but one revelation contained in nearly 500 pages of newly released documents relating to the Reagan visit being made public Friday by Britain's National Archives. The dossier shows the British government ? led by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher ? to be extraordinarily interested in pleasing the relatively new president on his two-day visit.
British leaders also fretted that perennial cross-Channel rivals might triumph in the tug-of-war for presidential face time in a visit that had to be sandwiched between two summits on the European mainland. They feared the president might cancel, either because of time pressure or a reluctance to offend other European leaders who wanted meetings with Reagan.
The dossier is filled with serious political concerns ? how to maximize Britain's influence on U.S. policy? ? and lighter matters, including what gift to give the Reagans (they decided on a carriage clock), and what type of horse and saddle Reagan would most enjoy for his ride with the queen.
At one point, the president's men pose a fashion question on his behalf: Just what should the president wear to go riding with the queen?
The answer: Something smart, but casual, of course. Riding boots, breeches and a turtleneck sweater would do fine ? no need for formal riding attire.
The papers show that top Reagan adviser Michael Deaver had a way of annoying his British counterparts with last-minute changes and requests, and also surprised them with some of his objectives. Deaver, remembered as a shrewd image-builder, said he wanted Reagan to be photographed outside of formal venues, so he wouldn't be seen "exclusively in white tie" at palace functions, even suggesting that Reagan go to a village pub to soak up the atmosphere
The documents make clear that Europe's leaders were desperate for Reagan's attention at a time of high Cold War tensions. A memo from U.K. Cabinet Secretary Robert Armstrong on Feb. 5 expresses concern that a gala, summit-closing dinner at the palace of Versailles outside Paris could delay Reagan's arrival in London. But he warns against pressuring the Reagan entourage to skip the meal at Versailles' Hall of Mirrors because "that would not please the President of the French Republic."
Reagan's aides also worried the British by suggesting the president might have to skip the stop in London because accepting it might anger the Germans, who had offered a similar invitation. The Americans express concern about "the German problem" ? the prospect that if the president visited London he might also have to add a stop in Germany, as well.
But feelings are smoothed when the Americans assure the British contingent that the Germans are not America's top priority.
"Eagleburger emphasized how much the president himself wanted to go to London," stresses one confidential memo from the British ambassador, referring to senior U.S. diplomat Lawrence Eagleburger. "There should be no doubt about that. Eagleburger also said that at the moment the Germans were not America's favorite allies."
There are confidential memos back and forth about whether the London stopover should be officially called a "state visit" ? the White House is reluctant to use that phrase for fear of offending the Italians, since a visit to Rome was not designated a state visit.
The prospect of a chance to relax from international summitry with a bit of horseback riding with the queen seems to have helped carry the day for the Brits. Asked for the president's favorite type of horse, British planners are told simply that he wants a thoroughbred. He ended up riding Centennial, one of the queen's favorites, and wearing a perfectly fitted sports jacket above his sweater, going for an old-time Hollywood look he carried off with ease.
Much of the actual visit was devoted to pomp and pageantry, or to relaxation, but Reagan did make one speech of consequence. He became the first American president to address a meeting of both houses of Parliament and used the occasion to trumpet his distaste for the Soviet Union, calling it an economic catastrophe.
He said Marxism-Leninism would be left on the ash heap of history ? a prediction that would come to pass in the following decade.

Why are (Smart) Investors Buying 50 Times More Physical Silver than Gold?
As long-time students of precious metals investing, there are certain things we understand. One is that, historically, the availability ratio of silver to gold has had a direct influence on the price of the metals. The current availability ratio of physical silver to gold for investment purposes is approximately 3:1. So, why is it that investors are allocating their dollars to silver at a much higher ratio? What is it that these ?smart? investors understand? Let?s have a look at the numbers and see if it?s time for investors to do as a wise man once said and ?follow the money.?
Average annual gold mine production is approximately 80 million ounces, which together with an estimated average 50?million ounces of annual recycled gold, totals around 130 million ounces available per year. In comparison, annual mined silver production has averaged around 750 million ounces, while recycled silver is estimated at 250?million ounces per year, which adds up to approximately 1 billion ounces. Using this data, there is roughly 8?times more silver available to buy than there is gold. However, not all gold and silver is available for investment purposes, due to their use in industrial applications. It is estimated that for investment purposes (jewelry, bars and coins), the annual availability of gold is roughly 120 million ounces, and of silver it is 350 million ounces. Therefore, the ratio of physical silver availability to gold availability is 350/120, or ~3:1.1
Now, let?s examine how investors are allocating their investments between gold and silver. The data below is from the US Mint showing gold and silver sales in ounces:

As you can see, investors are choosing to buy silver at a ratio to gold that is well above what is available. This uptrend doesn?t show any signs of slowing either. The ratio of the physical silver to gold is both rising and extraordinarily above the availability ratio of 3:1.
We can also use other data such as the most recent issues of the Sprott Physical Gold and Silver Trusts. The last Gold Trust issue in September 2012 raised US$393 million and the last Silver Trust issue raised US$310 million. On the basis of prices for each metal at the time of issue, we could purchase ~213 thousand ounces of gold and ~9.1 million ounces of silver. This represents a purchase ratio of 43:1.
If we examine ETF holdings in both gold and silver, we note that in the period from 2007 to 2012, the increase in silver holdings amounted to 12,000 tonnes, compared to 1,200 tonnes of gold ? meaning, investors purchased ten times more silver than gold.
These are only three factual data points to consider, but there are other indications that silver investment demand is way out of line with availability. Our favourite question to the bullion dealers we meet, is to ask the ratio of their dollar sales in gold versus silver. The answer is that dollar sales are equal, which means that physical silver sales relative to gold are greater than 50:1.
A recent news headline on Mineweb read, ?Silver Sales to Outshine Gold in India.2? It went on to quote a bullion dealer that ?investors and jewelry lovers prefer silver jewelry these days.? As the largest importer of gold in the world, it would be impossible for India to purchase an equivalent amount of silver, as it would require more than one billion ounces, essentially more than the current annual mine production.
While these last two confirmations of silver demand are anecdotal, the statistics from the US Mint, the ETFs, and our Physical Trust issues, are factual.
For the time being, the silver price is essentially set in the paper market where the daily average trade on the Comex is approximately 300 million ounces. An outrageous number when you compare it to the daily mine production of about 2 million ounces. As Bart Chilton, Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission stated on October 26, 2010, ?I believe there have been repeated attempts to influence prices in silver markets. There have been fraudulent efforts to persuade and deviously control that price. Based on what I have been told and reviewed in publicly available documents, I believe violations to the Commodity Exchange Act have taken place in the silver market and any such violation of the law in this regard should be prosecuted.?3
Which brings us back to the phrase ?Follow the money.? In our view, it is almost inconceivable that investors would allocate as many dollars to silver as they would to gold, but that is what the data shows.
The silver investment market is very small. While the dollar value of gold in the world approaches $9 trillion, the value of silver in the forms of jewelry, coins, bars and silverware is estimated at around $150 billion (5 billion ounces at $30 per ounce). This is a ratio of 60:1 in dollar terms.4
How long can investors continue to buy silver at the current ratios when the availability for investment is only 3:1? We are surprised that the price of silver has remained at such a depressed level compared to gold. Historically, the price ratio between gold and silver has been 16:1, when both were currencies. Today the ratio is 55:1, so what are the numbers telling us? We believe this is one of those times when smart investors will be well rewarded to ?Follow the money.?

The Mint recently informed authorized purchasers that all remaining inventories of 2012-dated Silver Eagle bullion coins had sold out and no additional coins would be struck. Since the 2013-dated coins will not be available to order until January 7, 2013, this leaves a three week void for the Mint?s most popular bullion offering.

Anyone with constantly swollen, itchy, red and irritated earlobes could be allergic to nickel, and the solution may be as simple as allergy free earrings.
Nickel is a natural white metal that is often mixed with gold to create a less-expensive alloy. It is used in jewelry, such as earring posts, and in many other common items. Metal allergies are a type of skin reaction called contact dermatitis. Dermatologists are seeing more and more cases of metal allergies as body piercings have become more common. After poison ivy, metal allergies are the most common cause of contact dermatitis.
Most people won't have a problem the first time they wear earrings with nickel posts, but repeated exposure may provoke a reaction. Some individuals, however, are highly sensitive to nickel and will have an allergic reaction after just brief contact. An allergy sufferer may not realize which pair of earrings is causing the discomfort since it often takes a few days for the reaction to show up.
People of any age can suddenly get nickel allergies. Symptoms include swelling, itching and redness. In severe cases, blisters may form and eventually break, leaving ugly painful crusts on the earlobes. The skin can become leathery, cracked and dark. A doctor should be consulted if this happens; there is a risk of infection. Usually the reaction is confined to the earlobe, but some people are so sensitive that they can spread the reaction to another part of their body simply by touching it with fingers that touched the nickel. Sweating can make the allergy worse since moisture can provoke an electrochemical reaction between the metals in an alloy.
People who suspect they have a nickel allergy should consult a skin doctor, called a dermatologist. The dermatologist can confirm the allergy by performing a painless skin patch test. The doctor will apply several allergens to a small patch of skin on the back, using hypoallergenic tape. The patient must leave the tape in place for about two days, then return to the dermatologist. The doctor will remove the tape and check for a reaction. If the area is irritated, then the person is allergic to the substance the doctor applied there. There's no cure for a nickel allergy, but there are some things that will ease the pain. The dermatologist may prescribe a corticosteroid cream to be applied on the affected area to ease the itching and swelling.
Of course, the best route is to avoid exposure to nickel. Earrings with 14-carat gold, sterling silver or stainless steel posts are available. There are also plastic sheaths that cover the nickel alloy posts on earrings, as well as earrings with plastic posts. Earrings with titanium posts are another option. Avoid nickel in other objects, too. Some people have allergic reactions to the nickel in snaps and zippers on their clothing. Others have trouble with metal eyeglasses and sunglasses frames. People who are very sensitive should avoid eating foods that are rich in nickel, such as chocolate, grains and nuts.

There?s no doubt more and more people are considering network marketing as a way to provide an additional source of income for their family.
As a matter of fact NOW is the best time for getting into network marketing, the industry has every seen.
Before you make the decision to join a network marketing company there are some things to think about.
Here is a list of tips to help you get started in the right direction.
Tip #1 ? Don?t tell your family and friends about your new network marketing business, unless your OK with being rejected.
Now that might sound backwards but if your not good with rejection from family and friends then why submit yourself to it.
Get your feet wet and get some time under your belt before you announce your new business to them.
Tip #2 ? Educate yourself in network marketing. The majority of new network marketers will throw in the towel within 90 days. Why? Because they haven?t seen any results.
The REAL problem is that they haven?t taken the time to learn how to hone their skills in the areas of? prospecting, recruiting and generating leads. Typically, they have already blown threw their warm market, family and friends, and now they are struggling with getting more leads! The second problem is that haven?t committed to working their business for more than 90 days.
Being serious about your business means committing to doing it for more than 90 days, results or not. Along with educating yourself in the areas I mentioned above and learning more about online marketing.

What they were missing out on is the fact that they set their expectations to high. Now I am not saying that you can?t succeed in the network marketing industry. By no means! Lots of network marketers are making a comfortable living. The difference is they set the right expectations followed by hard work. You can expect a lot out of your business. But if your not hitting your goals then your expectations are set to high.
Remember your WHY, Be Realistic with yourself and Keep your nose to the grindstone!
Tip #5 ? What are your Goals? Sit down and write out your Goals. What is it you want to achieve by getting into network marketing? Are you looking to replace your 9-5 job or are you looking into network marketing as an additional stream of income? Whatever the case may be, be sure it is in line with your WHY and your Expectations!
My best advice here is to break down your business into small goals. If you lay it out you will know what you need to do in order to hit each goal.
It doesn?t matter what your goals are, what matters is that you reach them.
Finally, Tip #6 ? Keep your current JOB. When considering network marketing; consider keeping your job, if you have one, until you can replace it with the income generated from your home based business. If you are a stay at home mom or have a part time job then getting into network marketing is a great choice.
Network marketing can be a good source of income for you if you approach the business in the right manner.Treat you home based business like a business. If you do and follow these tips you will get further along then the rest of your competition.

Bedard: Let the bad blood boil over in Seattle
49ers and Seahawks are remarkably similar, and they don't like each other

There a few key elements that are essential to a burgeoning NFL rivalry.
Do the 49ers and Seahawks have it heading into Sunday night?s heavyweight NFC West tilt? Oh yeah.
There has to be something on the line.
Seattle (9-5) is 1 1/2 games behind San Francisco (10-3-1) and is still vying for the division crown. They?ll need a lot of help ? the 49ers would have to lose at home to the hapless Cardinals in the season finale ? but there?s a chance. Plus, the Seahawks haven?t yet clinched a playoff berth. So they need a victory. The 49ers took great pleasure in ending Seattle?s playoff hopes last December.
You need promising talent at the league?s most important position, quarterback.
Both teams have that. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is one of the top candidates for NFL offensive rookie of the year after leading Seattle to three straight wins by a combined score of 121-34. Second-year signal-caller Colin Kaepernick has led the 49ers to a 4-1 record since being inserted as the starter over Alex Smith, including a Sunday night road victory over the powerhouse Patriots.
And you also need a little bad blood.
The 49ers and Seahawks definitely have that, and you don?t need to look any further than their head coaches. Pete Carroll (USC) and Jim Harbaugh (Stanford) knocked heads in the Pac-10 before taking their rivalry to the NFL.
It came to crescendo in 2009 when, after Stanford went for two up 48-21 late, Carroll asked Harbaugh, ?What?s your deal?? during the postgame handshake. Just this season, Harbaugh complained about contact administered by Seahawks cornerbacks in the 49ers? 13-6 Week 7 victory.
That prompted Carroll to bring up how Harbaugh had got all bent out of shape a few weeks earlier when Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said 49ers end Justin Smith ?got away with murder? holding offensive linemen.
So the Sunday night showdown has all the makings of a great rivalry.
Actually, some of the hard feelings from both teams probably have to do with that fact that they?re so similar:
Carroll and Harbaugh are former college coaches with NFL bloodlines.
Both have young, athletic QBs who surprisingly were given starting jobs over better-paid veterans (Alex Smith, 49ers; Matt Flynn, Seahawks). Wilson and Kaepernick were hotshot baseball prospects to boot.
Both offenses now feature the pistol formation combined with read option to accentuate their QBs' talents and put pressure on opposing defenses. The 49ers have scored 357 points, the Seahawks 350.
Both are run-first offenses led by stud running backs ? Frank Gore (49ers) and Marshawn Lynch (Seahawks). Seattle is third in the league with 160.7 rushing yards per game, San Francisco second (162.9).
Both teams are built around stingy defenses. The Seahawks have allowed 219 points, better than only one team: yes, the 49ers (218).
"There is something about them, man. They're basically the same team as us and I just hate that fact," Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor said.
Let the rivalry rage Sunday night.
Here are the three keys to the game for each team:
49ERS
Contain Lynch: Since Marshawn Lynch debuted against the 49ers for the Bills in 2008, the 49ers have allowed eight 100-yard performances. Lynch has three of them. He became the first running back in 37 games to break the century mark against the 49ers last year, and had 103 yards against them Oct. 18.
Mind the play-action: With the focus on Lynch, expect the Seahawks to take a fair share of shots down the field off play-action fakes. Despite his 5-foot-11 stature, Wilson actually excels at the deep ball with great touch.
And one way to give him a better view of the field is to fake a handoff and either stay with a seven-step drop or roll him out. The Seahawks do both and it?s very effective to receivers Sidney Rice, the emerging Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin, and tight end Zach Miller.
49ers safeties Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner are one of the best safety tandems in the league. But they can also be overaggressive running downhill against the run, which is their forte. Just a couple of steps forward can be the difference between an incompletion and a 60-yard touchdown.
Throw it: Yes, Gore and the 49ers offensive line completely dominated the normally stout Seahawks front seven in the earlier meeting (175 yards total rushing yards with 131 from Gore), and the 49ers might be even tougher to defend on the ground with all the pistol formations and various line movements that go along with it.
But we expect Harbaugh to throw a curve, like he did against the Patriots, and come out throwing. He should. The Seahawks should have standout cornerback Richard Sherman, who is awaiting word of his drug suspension appeal, in the lineup. But No. 2 cornerback Brandon Browner is still serving his suspension, and Walter Thurmond and Marcus Trufant are dealing with hamstring injuries.That means youngsters Byron Maxwell and Jeremy Lane might need to play more snaps again. They did well against the Bills, but this is a completely different challenge against Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss, Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker.
SEAHAWKS
Force Kaepernick to win it again: The Seahawks? struggles against Gore are well documented. And the schemes the 49ers are now running with Kaepernick will make it even more difficult, not to mention the emergence of rookie scat back LaMichael James.
But the Seahawks have to figure out a way to make the 49ers more one-dimensional, or they?re extremely tough to beat. The Seahawks are going to need excellent games from defensive tackles Alan Branch and Brandon Mebane against 49ers center Jonathan Goodwin, who dominated them in the first matchup and is the key to the running game.
Kaepernick is good, but one of the unknowns is how he will react if the running game is stagnant and he needs to win the game himself.
Handle the stunts: The Seahawks have a very good left tackle in Russell Okung and he was very good in the first matchup. But the problem in defending 49ers end Aldon Smith (19.5 sacks) isn?t with one-one rushes, it?s with the end-tackle stunts the 49ers run between Justin Smith and Aldon Smith.
Justin Smith will rush outside and hug both the left guard and tackle, while Smith dips inside untouched. Seattle had a tough time with those the first time around, as do most teams. And on the other side, the Seahawks are going to have to give right tackle Breno Giacomini help. He was dominated by the 49ers earlier this season.
If Wilson isn?t given time to throw, the Seahawks will have a tough time winning the game.
Install the hurry-up offense: The Seahawks like to play their game and plod along with the running game, defense and then some deep shots. They can still play it that way, but if they want to go for broke, they should take a page out of the Patriots? playbook and go no huddle against the 49ers.
Being at home makes it that much easier for the Seattle. The Patriots scored 28 points in the fourth quarter against the 49ers on Sunday night. San Francisco entered the game allowing 14 points per game. The Patriots showed the way for other teams against the 49ers? excellent and physical defense: go fast, they?ll get tired and they can?t rush the passer.
