National Nursing Home Week (NNHW) is being celebrated May 13-19, 2012 by nursing homes in Arizona and across the country. NNHW appreciates the employees, volunteers, residents, and family members at nursing homes throughout the United States. This year, the week?s theme is Celebrating the Journey, a theme that honors the lives and milestones of center residents and rejoices the new journey they have begun at the nursing homes. Homes allow their residents to continue living life to the fullest, regardless of age, disability, or frailty.
Nursing homes provide countless benefits to their residents and the family members of residents. When a loved one is ailing and needs fulltime care, it can place a great deal of stress on their family. Even if a family member has the time to devote to the care for a sick loved one, they often lack the medical training to properly look after their loved one. Nursing homes provide a wonderful alternative, allowing families to place faith that their loved one will be well taken care of by the home?s health care workers and expertly trained caregivers, who are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Many nursing homes even have physical therapists and psychologists that can provide therapies and critical care for residents in need.
Along with knowing that your loved one is cared for physically and that they are fed regularly, nursing homes offer great social outlets for their residents. Crafting, bridge, bingo, board games, concerts, dancing, movies, and other outings keep residents social and thriving. This priceless human interaction keeps residents physically and mentally active while engaging and strengthening their motor skills.
Of course, family members are encouraged to visit their loved ones frequently while they reside at a nursing home. The staff are welcoming and accommodating to families and friends who come to spend time with residents.
National Nursing Home Week reminds the Elder Law staff at JacksonWhite the importance of nursing homes and the benefits that they bring to residents and their families every day. NNHW is an annual observance sponsored nationally by the American Health Care Association, based in Washington, D.C. For more information on National Nursing Home Week, please visit www.nnhw.org.
